Medical Management Intake Specialist

Location: Remote (Michigan-area candidates within reasonable proximity to a designated office)
Employment Type: Contract
Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with rotating weekend, holiday, and overtime requirements
Contract Duration: Approximately 6 months

Position Overview

Walker Healthforce is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Medical Management Intake Specialist to support a leading healthcare organization.

In this role, you will serve as a key point of contact for healthcare providers, supporting prior authorization and utilization management processes. You will be responsible for managing provider inquiries, processing requests, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring a positive provider experience.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with healthcare customer service experience, strong communication skills, and a solid understanding of medical terminology and health insurance processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to inbound and outbound calls from healthcare providers, physicians, and medical facilities.

• Assist providers with inquiries related to prior authorization and utilization management programs.

• Process provider requests accurately and efficiently.

• Document interactions and requests in healthcare management systems.

• Coordinate with nurses and internal teams to support medical management workflows.

• Review and route incoming faxes, emails, and voicemail messages to appropriate team members.

• Assist with compliance-related inquiries and administrative requests.

• Maintain accurate and complete records while delivering exceptional provider-focused customer service.

• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve inquiries and support efficient operations.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare, health insurance, or a related field.

• High school diploma and some college or university experience.

• Knowledge of medical terminology or previous medical experience.

• Familiarity with health insurance processes, including claims, benefits coordination, and prior authorizations.

• Previous customer service experience, including inbound and outbound phone communication.

• Experience working with healthcare software, databases, or similar systems.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or two years of college education.

• Previous experience in Utilization Management, medical management, or prior authorization support.

• Experience working directly with physicians, healthcare providers, or medical facilities.

• Familiarity with Care Advance or similar healthcare management platforms.

• Experience supporting clinical teams or working alongside nurses.

• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Work Environment and Schedule

This is a remote opportunity; however, candidates must live within reasonable proximity to a designated office location for occasional IT support needs.

The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility required for rotating weekend shifts, holidays, and overtime as needed.
