Data Modeler – Finance Data / Snowflake Lakehouse | Remote (Chicago Preferred) | Contract

We are seeking an experienced Data Modeler to design and develop logical and physical data models for the Silver and Gold layers of a Snowflake-based Lakehouse architecture.

This remote contract opportunity focuses on Finance Data Modeling, particularly General Ledger and Trial Balance datasets. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on data modeling expertise, experience working with enterprise financial source systems, and the ability to provide thought leadership during data architecture and modeling discussions.

The consultant will assess existing data models, identify inefficiencies, facilitate stakeholder workshops, and develop extensible future-state Finance data models.

Core Requirements:

• Advanced Data Modeling experience

• Experience developing logical and physical data models

• Silver and Gold layer data modeling experience

• Strong understanding of Medallion Architecture

• Data Warehouse and Lakehouse architecture experience

• Finance Data Modeling expertise

• General Ledger and Trial Balance data modeling experience

• Experience modeling data sourced from SAP, Oracle, or JD Edwards

• Strong understanding of 3NF, Star Schema, and Snowflake Schema approaches

• Ability to select and customize modeling approaches based on requirements

• Experience assessing existing data models and identifying inefficiencies

• Experience designing extensible and reusable data models

• Proficiency with data modeling tools

• Experience collaborating with Finance functional resources

• Ability to lead stakeholder workshops and provide technical recommendations

• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills

We Consider It A Bonus If You Also Have:

• Familiarity with Snowflake

• Experience with Snowflake-based Lakehouse architectures

• Experience defining Finance data modeling standards

• Experience modernizing enterprise Finance data models

• Experience facilitating Finance data architecture workshops

• Experience establishing leading practices across Medallion Architecture layers

Job Responsibilities:

• Design logical and physical data models for Silver and Gold layers.

• Collaborate with Finance stakeholders to understand General Ledger and Trial Balance requirements.

• Define modeling approaches for each Medallion Architecture layer.

• Assess existing data models for fitness for use and structural inefficiencies.

• Recommend improvements to model extensibility and maintainability.

• Lead workshops to understand current-state challenges and future-state requirements.

• Develop future-state Finance data models.

• Model financial data originating from SAP, Oracle, and JD Edwards.

• Apply 3NF, Star Schema, and Snowflake Schema practices as appropriate.

• Establish leading practices for data modeling across architectural layers.

• Provide independent technical recommendations and design guidance.

• Collaborate with functional, architecture, and engineering teams.

• Support scalable and reusable Finance data solutions.
