AI Prompt Engineer | 6+ Years of Experience | Hybrid | Charlotte, NC | Contract

Walker Healthforce is seeking an experienced AI Prompt Engineer to support an innovative enterprise AI initiative focused on building intelligent assistants, automation workflows, and decision-support solutions powered by Large Language Models (LLMs).

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex business problems through thoughtful prompt design, experimentation, and AI optimization. You'll work alongside product, engineering, UX, data, and business teams to create scalable, production-ready AI experiences that deliver reliable, accurate, and measurable business value.

START DATE: ASAP
HOURS/SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 40 hours
WORKER TYPE: W2 Contractor

CORE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
• 6+ years of experience in AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Conversational Design, Product Writing, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience designing, testing, and optimizing prompts for Large Language Model (LLM) applications.
• Strong understanding of prompt engineering techniques, context windows, hallucination risks, prompt patterns, and model behavior.
• Experience developing AI evaluation frameworks, experimentation methodologies, and quality measurement processes.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts and trade-offs effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Design, develop, and optimize prompts, prompt chains, templates, and system instructions for enterprise AI applications.
• Create guardrails, examples, and prompt strategies that improve response quality, consistency, safety, and user experience.
• Evaluate model performance across business scenarios, edge cases, and failure modes.
• Develop testing methodologies and quality benchmarks for accuracy, relevance, tone, safety, and task completion.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, AI Engineers, UX Designers, and Business Stakeholders to integrate prompt solutions into production environments.
• Analyze user feedback, system logs, and AI outputs to continuously improve prompt effectiveness.
• Support Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows through context optimization and prompt grounding.
• Establish prompt versioning, governance, documentation, testing standards, and best practices.
• Work closely with subject matter experts to translate business rules, policies, and domain knowledge into effective AI interactions.

WE CONSIDER IT A BONUS IF YOU ALSO HAVE:

• Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, semantic search, or AI orchestration frameworks.
• Experience with Python, SQL, REST APIs, or workflow automation.
• Knowledge of prompt testing platforms, LLMOps, AI observability, or model monitoring tools.
• Background in UX writing, conversation design, content strategy, or human-computer interaction.
• Experience working in enterprise, consulting, financial services, healthcare, or other highly regulated environments.
